RVers need to get water to their rig somehow. Using a fresh water hose does the trick. However, if you are living in your rig for an extended amount of time in multiple locations, potential problems can arise. RV park water pressure isn’t always consistent or safe, constantly hooking and unhooking the hose can add wear and tear on the system, and using your fresh water hose for purposes other than drinking can be a huge health risk. RVers can maximize the benefits of their fresh water hose with the following attachments.
Water Regulator
Typically water regulators will screw into the spigot and the hose will screw into the regulator. The purpose of a water regulator is to prevent damage of RV plumbing due to high water pressure. Regulators are important to have since RV parks vary in how much water pressure comes out of their systems. RVs are only designed to handle a certain amount of pressure. Recommended water pressure for RVs ranges from 50-60 psi (pounds per square inch).
There are many different kinds of regulators on the market. Some allow you to manually adjust the water pressure while others are set to a specific water pressure. The regulator will list the maximum pressure on the device/packaging. Maintenance tip: Regulators can get calcium and salt deposit build up just like anything else surrounded by water If you notice that your water pressure starts getting really low, soak the regulator in vinegar for several hours, rinse it out, and screw back on.
Hose Elbow
One opening of the hose elbow attaches to the RV via the water intake port. The water hose screws into the L-shape connector vertically as opposed to a horizontal position. This eliminates stress and eventual damage on the fitting and extends the life of the water hose.
Hose Splitter
A hose spiltter is generally screwed into a spigot and allows users to attach more than one hose at a time. Switches open and close values as needed. If you needed to rinse something off, give a pet a bath, or any activity involving a second hose, the splitter does away with the need to detach and use your fresh water hose. Also, since you are not drinking out of the second hose, you don’t have to be as careful with how it is used.
