Dry Camping and Travel Tips with Levi: Episode 5

In previous episodes, Levi focused on popular overnight dry camping spots like Walmart,  truck stops, rest stops, and Cracker Barrel.  He segues into travel tips in this new episode, specifically traveling tips with pets.  You are not alone if you RV or plan to RV with your fur balls.   Our cats and pooch make life on the road a heck of a lot more interesting and (especially with our dog) motivate us to go out on more hikes!

At some point, you’ll need to take your pets to the vet either for routine procedures or (hopefully not) emergency care.  Since we are traveling all over the country, swinging by our regular vet is far fetched (bad pun). Instead, we’ve opted to schedule our visits with Banfield.  Banfield Pet Hospitals are located in many Petsmarts around the nation.  Customer information is collected on a database shared within the company, so wherever you roam, if you are at a Banfield, they will have your pet’s medical history.

This convenience saves us time during the visit explaining background history on our pet, especially since we have been customers for a few years now. We have also purchased a wellness plan (likened to pet insurance). These plans are specific to dogs and cats and manageable monthly payments cover the costs of routine/preventative care like yearly vaccinations, blood tests, dental care, and x-rays. (Note: We are in no way affiliated with Banfield.  We are simply sharing our experience with this company for those interested.)

This happens to be our present predicament as we planned to be hundreds of miles southwest of Knoxville by now but haven’t moved the rig but a few miles from it’s last location.  We ended up rushing our dog, Brewy, to a nearby Banfield the same day we were planning to head out.  Long story short, our traveling plans have come to a screeching halt as we are waiting for test results and an impending surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.

This is a part of the full time RV life, just like the life of any other.  Life happens and things need to be addressed.  Having a sort of centralized location, some form of consistency like Banfield, makes life on an ever changing highway a bit easier to maneuver.  For now, we ask for good thoughts that Brewy has a good outcome.  We’ll send an update on the next video, I’m sure.

Our main source when planning journeys between work camping gigs is Allstays.  We’ve mentioned Allstays a number of times in previous posts but cannot say enough about the website and app.  Allstays is our go-to guide for RV travel.  Not only does Allstays pinpoint campgrounds around the nation, it also locates overnight stops at businesses like truck stops, big box stores, restaurants, and more!
