Valentine’s Day is just a few days away!  If you are like us and want to avoid the big crowds at restaurants, consider enjoying a quiet, special meal right in the comfort of your RV.  There are countless recipes out there for Valentine’s Day.  We share our favorite, French Dip with Au Jus, in the following video.  A list of ingredients, cookware, and instructions are also provided below.

Ingredients:

2 one-inch thick boneless rib eye steaks

McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning

2 tbsp butter

1/2 c sour cream

1 tbsp mayonnaise

3/4 tsp creamy horseradish

1/2 tsp salt

1 loaf french bread

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1/3 c water

Cookware:

skillet (cast iron preferably)

tongs

baking dish

meat thermometer

aluminum foil

mixing bowls

cutting board/knife

strainer/spoon

oven

Instructions:

To make the steaks…

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Sprinkle steak seasoning liberally around the entirety of the steaks and rub seasoning in.
  3. Heat your skillet to High. Using tongs, press the edges of the steak onto the hot pan to caramelize/brown. Sear both sides of the steak, about  2-3 minutes on either side.
  4. Transfer steaks to the baking dish and put one tbsp of butter on each steak.
  5. Place in oven for 10 minutes.  Flip the steaks over and cook an additional 10 minutes or until the steaks reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  6. Take dish out of the oven and cover with aluminum foil, letting it rest for at least 10 minutes.

While the meat is resting, prepare the sandwich bread…

  1. Cut 2 four-inch pieces off the loaf and cut those in half to make a sandwich.  Toast to your desire.

While bread is toasting, make the horseradish sauce…

  1. Combine sour cream, mayonnaise, horseradish and salt in a bowl.  Mix thoroughly.

To make the Au Jus…

  1. Remove the steaks from the baking pan to a cutting board and save the drippings.
  2. Add garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and water to the drippings. Stir.
  3. Pour sauce through strainer to take out any solids. Mash the solids with a spoon to make sure you get all the flavor through the strainer. (Watch the video if this instruction does not make any sense.)

To assemble the sandwich…

  1. Cut the steak into thin strips.
  2. Spread the horseradish mixture on your bread.
  3. Pile on the meat. Don’t be shy!
  4. Pour some Au Jus in a bowl for dipping.
  5. Enjoy!!
