If your travels bring you to Eastern Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountains, make sure to tour the valley amongst the mountains called Cades Cove. Visitors can view wildlife and walk through a time capsule of preserved buildings dating back to the 19th century. The best way to experience this little slice of heaven is by way of an 11-mile loop, Cades Cove Loop Road. We drove the loop on our visit but were told by other visitors that hiking and pedal biking are other preferred ways of experiencing this natural beauty and historical piece of the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
Since the loop follows a one-way route, the entrance can be accessed via Laurel Creek Road from Townsend, TN. The following map can be found in the site’s guidebook provided at the entrance of Caves Code Loop Road. These books can be purchased for $1 at the Orientation Shelter.
